On July 11th, as Lamoille County and other parts of Vermont were facing flooding a year to the date from 2023, Vermont Edition did an episode from Johnson talking with town leaders and community members about the flood and how they have navigated the past year of recovery.
Joie Lehoullier of Foote Brook Farm gave an interview talking about their experience and ways they are adpating on the farm.
Deep Root again had member farms hit with the 2024 flooding, some badly. Joe’s Brook Farm, Jericho Settlers, Cate Farm, and Burnt Rock all endured significant losses. Riverberry Farm had some damage from the flooding, but not to the extent of the previous year. Our offices and truck fortunately were not damaged this time. As a co-op overall, we fared better. One of the strengths of a co-op, and Deep Root in particular, is that we are able to draw from all our member farms, bringing resiliency to the organization and an enduring distribution outlet for our members for the future.
Flood recovery efforst on the state and local level continue.
